Parkrun Challenge
Introducing a new “parkrun challenge” starting January 2026!
Each month, from January through to December, a different local parkrun will be the focus of this new year-long competition. Some of these are very local, whilst others are a short drive.
All you have to do to take part is turn up and run at the designated parkrun on one Saturday during that month, and remember to scan your barcode when you finish.
At the end of the month, we will collate the results for all of you with Huncote Harriers set as your team in the parkrun results. Those with the highest WAVA age-graded percentage will receive the most points for that month. The scores will be posted on the Facebook group in a similar way to the Huncote Grand Prix.
At the end of the year, your best 8 monthly results will count and the runner with the most points will be the parkrun champion. Prizes for the highest-scoring runner in each training group (Emerald, Sapphire, Topaz, Amber) will be awarded at Coach/RL discretion.
Initially this will be an individual competition. If it proves popular we’ll look at how a team-based competition can run alongside it, which focuses more on fun challenges than your best performance.
What does WAVA age-grading mean?
This is a method of scoring a performance taking into account gender and age. Say a gentleman named Len Lenson in the 60-64 age bracket completed a parkrun in 25 minutes. That would give a WAVA percentage of roughly 65%. In comparison, an Under 23 lady named Nachel Realon would need to finish in roughly 21.5 mins to get the same percentage. You can see your parkrun age grade percentage in your results email and in the online results (if you switch it to “Detailed” view):
How do I set my club?
You can log in (if you know your password!) at https://www.parkrun.com/runner/mylinks and then click the Groups button. If you don’t know your password, look in your email for a past result and click the links there.
What if I run it more than once in the month?
You can run it as many times (or just once) during that month, your highest age-graded result will count. I’d like to suggest that everyone trying to do it on the first Saturday of the month would be a good social activity.
