Charitable Giving

Huncote Harriers’ Joy Cann 5 memorial race is held annually on the first Wednesday of August, and is committed to raising a contribution towards local charities.  Registered charities or local good causes are welcome to make themselves known to us. After each race the proposals and selection is put to the committee.

Donations have been made as follows:

  • The Neonatal Unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, who were such a great help recently to club members Jen Kirk and Pete McLennan following the birth of baby Freddie.
  • The Nottingham Hospitals Charity in memory of Bella Hurst, nominated by Wendy Thompson.
  • Cancer Research UK
  • LRI Our Space Appeal.
  • Down’s Heart Group
  • Heartlink
  • The Laura Centre
  • Huncote Animal Aid
  • Edgar’s Gift
This fund has been set up by the family of local lad Ben Edkins, who sadly died aged 25 in April 2010, after bravely battling Rhabdomysarcoma, a rare form of cancer. They have applied to become a registered charity and all of their fundraising goes to The Sarcoma Trust.

This is a small organisation that runs a play/activity scheme for children with disabilites, ranging in age from about 6 to 19.
  • Rainbows – purchase of a glass brick in the Rainbows wall of remembrance, which went towards fund-raising for their building for the future
